INTERNATIONAL TELEGRAMS

ALTERATIONS IN CONDITIONS The Postmaster-General, the Hon. A. Hamilton, announces that consequent upon the decisions reached at an international conference held at Madrid late last year the following alterations have been effected in the conditions governing the acceptance and transmission of international telegrams as from the Ist April next: — , , ~ (1) The system ol week-end cable messages (WLT) will be abolished. (2) The charge for daily letter-tele-grams (DI.T) will be at the rate of onethird of tlie ordinary full rate per word with a- minimum charge equivalent to that- for twenty-five words including the address and signature. (3) The requirement that figures and commercial marks must not exceed onethird of the number of chargeable words in the text and signature will still apply to deferred ((LCO) and daily-let-ter telegrams (DLT), but figures written in words will be admitted without restriction in both classes of messages. (4) The charge for urgent cablegrams will be reduced from triple to double lU From the Ist January 1934 the following alterations will be made in the conditions under which overseas code messages will be accepted and transmitted. (10 Code words in cable messages may not comprise more than five letters which may be formed without restnctions in respect of vowels. (2) The charge for this class ot message will be at the rate of 60 per cent, of the ordinary full tariff. (3) The minimum charge will be equivalent to that for a five-word message. (4) The number of figures or groups ot figures must not exceed one-half of the number of words in the text and signa turc. , . , , 5) A registered telegraphic address of ten letters (such as “kodemakers ) will be counted and charged lor as two five-letter words.
