BUSH FIRES IN RIVERINA
30,000 ACRES OF GRASSLAND SWEPT (United Press Association—By ElectrP Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 14th December, 10.45 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Bush fires destroyed over 30,000 acres of grassland in Riverina. A serious outbreak near Oaldands swept 17,000 acres, destroyed large numbers of sheep, razed fencing, and cut off homesteads before it was subdued by 200 fire-fighters. Spreading to the railway line the fire ignited the sleepers and forced the train from Urana to Oaldands to turn back Smaller outbreaks occurred in other centres, sheep and cattle perishing.
