CRICKET ASSOCIATION REPRESENTATIVE MATCHES (From Our Own Correspondent) On Saturday two teams from the Wnimea Association played Motueka, Association, the A teams meeting at .Motueka and the 1! teams at Riwaka. 1" the Motueka mulch, the wicket, though soft at the commencement, played well throughout, playing even better at tin: ond of the (lay than in the morning. Davies won the toss from Clark and Waiinea- sent Motueka to the wickets. Motueka could compile only 51 runs lielore the bowling of K. Lines and A. Gibjin. the bitter coming out with the remarkable figures of live wickets for 5 runs. With two down for 16, Waimeu. made a poor start but Shuttleworth and Knapp took the total to 55 before Knapp went. Two more wickets went cheaply. Then Shuttleworth and Read took the total to 96 before the former was out. The next wicket fell at 100 runs and Wells and Read added 73 for the eighth wicket. Read played a good knock for 74 runs, though he was rather scratchy for ;t start. The innings closed at 4.45 p.m. lor 213. It. Smith live for 60 and N. Ilolyoake two for 43 were Motueka- s best Irundlers. Faced with the task of knocking up 161 runs to avoid ail innings defeat- Motneka opened well, G. Fowler and V. Kranmier being the first- batsmen. Krammer and R. Bowers carried __ the total to 84 for two wickets when Krainnier returned to the pavilion. In company with Clark, R. Rowers opened up and brought his total to 72 before being beaten. 11is was an excellent knock. Before Knapp and Ilawkes the remainder offered little opposition, time just saving the side with nine wickets down for 146. B- Knapp with five for 15 was Waimca’s best bowler, the impression generally being that he was used only too sparingly. 'The fielding of Waimea, was excellent throughout-, two catches, one by Lines and the other by Shuttleworth being- fine efforts. Motueka did not, show to advantage in fielding, N. Ilolyoake and W. .Whitchorn being outstanding exceptions. R. Bowers kept wickets very well, allowing only 6 byes in 200 odd runs. At- Riwaka the 15 teams bad a very enjoyable game, Waimeu leading by 15 runs on the first innings. Motueka in their second attempt left Waimea with some 30 odd runs to get for a. decisive win, but time was called when they had lost five wickets for under 20 runs. Again the fielding of Motueka was poor, Waimea showing to advantage 111 this department of the game. W. Hasler (Waimea) and F. Rogers (Motueka) bowled very well throughout. Appended are the scores :

BROOKLYN The-junior match between Lower MOll- - and Brooklyn played on the hitler's ground resulted in a victory for Brooklyn by six wickets ami 13 runs. Lower Moulere scored 55 runs (L. Limine r 26) for their first innings, to vvhicli Brooklyn replied with 54 (Dolibie 13. Young 12). In the second strike Lower Moutere were dismissed for 53 (L-lelt 12. Brandoii 1C), while Brooklyn compiled 67 for four wickets, (bus giving them l lie match. Of the bowlers. 15. Rowling for Brooklyn took four for 2 and four tor 18 in the respective' innings. L. Linimer, Lower Moutere secured five for 3 and F. Krammer two for 10.

TENNIS ASSOCIATION

JUNIOR MATCH Tennis fixtures set down for last. Saturday. which included District Championship singles for the seniors, and Association mall-lies for the juniors, were not played, with the exception of the junior match Motueka v. Riverside, on account of unsuitable weather. It has been decided to postpone the Championship singles event until Ist I'ebruarv, 1933. Motueka juniors defeated Riverside by 13 sets, 85 games, to 3 sets, 55 games.

DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB

MR HUGHES’S TROPHY

On Saturday afternoon the Rifle Club fired for a trophy presented by Mr’S. Hughes, The conditions were two shoots of ten shots at 390 yards. The highest score off the ride was obtained by Rifleman G. A. Crossman who look the feathers from Rifleman S. Mather. The scores were as follows:-

PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH GARDEN PARTY On Friday afternoon members of the Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild held a successful garden party at the residence of Mrs Norman Ross. Rambler roses in full bloom, made a bright and colourful setting for the function; and the shady walnut trees afforded a fitting background for the stalls, at which good business was done througout the afternoon. A very enjoyable afternoon tea was dispensed and games and competitions provided entertainment for the many visitors. Stalls and stall-holders were: Sewing, Mesdames Brough and Gifford; cake, Mesdames Maxwell and W. Drummond; produce, Mesdames Bruning and Nightingale; svveels. Misses McGlashen and Douglas; afternoon tea, Mesdames Reg. Rowling, W. Andrews, A. E. Fry, and .T. Thomson; busy-bee stall, Misses A. Ross and Henderson. Proceeds from the garden party amounted to approximately £2O, which will be devoted to the Presbyterian Church funds.
