In the greatest exhibition of batting in the history of cricket in Vancouver Island, the Australians defeated a representative team from the Cowiclian Club in the opening match of the tour by 503 runs for 8 wickets (declared) to 184 runs. Cowichan batted 18 and fielded 11 men. ANOTHER GOOD SCORE BRADMAN IN FORM SECURES 7 WICKETS VICTORIA (8.C.), 18th June. The touring Australian cricketers defeated a Vancouver Island representative team by 303 runs for six pickets (declared) to 112 runs. In the remaining 3 of an hour’s play the home side secured 99 runs for 7 wickets in the second innings, all being secured by Bradman. The Australian batting was led by Bradman, who secured 94 runs. Tiie North bowlers were severely tried in the test trial. Larwood did not suggest the speed and deadliness which England needs. Voce was distinctly the more dangerous. Mitchell showed some variation, but his deliveries were played by Duleepsinhji and Hammond without difficulty. Duleepsinhji batted for three hours and hit 14 fours.
