NEW GAS PLANT

“THOROUGHLY UP=TO=DATE AND EFFICIENT” LETTER TO MAYOR FROM CHRISTCHURCH ENGINEER At yesterday afternoon’s ceremony of the opening of the new gas plant, the Mayor (Mr W. J. Moffatt) stated that he felt confident in saying that the plant was up-to-uato and efficient and would prove satisfactory in every way. He was expecting confirmation of this statement from Mr F. W. J. Belton, engineer to the Christchurch Gas and Coal Company, who had thoroughly examined the plant. This confirmation the Mayor received this morning in the following letter from the Christchurch engineer : “After an examination of your plant, and the results being obtained therefrom I am quite satisfied that you have at your works a thoroughly up-to-date and efficient plant which is a credit to the corporation, and to the contractors responsible for the installation. The plant is in good order and working satisfactorily, and is giving results higher than the results estimated for in the report ivhich I made to the Council about two years ago. There is always a lot of fault finding in connection with a new plant, especially in a small town, by various people who may be disgruntled or who have axes to grind. 1 personally am quite satisfied with the plant, and Nelson should congratulate itself on possessing the most efficient and up-to-date gas making plant of this size in New Zealand.”
