GOVERNMENT LEASES AN AREA BETTER ACCOMMODATION- AND FACILITIES I lie Nelson Progress Leaguo has for years urged upon the Government the necessity of providing proper accommodation etc. at the Maruia Springs, aud it, is understood that a large accommodation house of 45 rooms is now under way. The following letter from the Minister in charge of Tourist and Health Resorts and Publicity was received at the meeting of the League yesterday afternoon:— “I have to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 17th instant in regard to the lease of the iMaruia Springs. In reply I have to inform von that an area of 104 acres has been leased to the Misses Morris, of Reefton, for a term of twenty-one years as from the Ist March, 1931. The lease has been drawn up with stringent conditions as regards the up-keep and maintenance of the springs, etc., and a clause has been inserted to the effect that the lessees shall provide and reserve free of charge two suitable baths to the satisfaction of the Minister, one for male patients and one for female patients for sufch persons who are certified as indigent and unable to pay for same by the chairman of the Hospital Board or by the Member of Parliament for the district in which such persons reside.” It was resolved to write to the Misses Morris asking for full information on the matter.
