THE WAGES CUT
APPLICATIONS FOR EXEMPTION REJECTED (By Telegraph—Press Association) AUCKLAND, This Day. Three Auckland applications for exemption from the 10 per cent, wages cut were rejected by the Arbitration Court in judgments to-day. In the case of the Devon'port Feny Company workers and engineers (two applications) the Court said that the company did not increase (its fares during a period of increasing wages, and its profits in the last twelve months had been considerably reduced. In the case of milk roundsmen the Court said that the grounds of application related exclusively to the general conditions of employment which were all considered when the award was made. The Court also rejected an application by the Christchurch branch of the Amalgamated Carpenters and Joiners Union for exclusion from the general order insofar as it affects workers engaged ail: der existing contracts.
