VESPER HOUR
Vesper hour (or twilight) is said to be between tho dog and tho wolf, “betwixt and between”; neither day nor ir ' a breed betwoon tho canis and canis lupus, too .much day to be night, and too much night to bo day. Probably tho phraso was suggested by tho terms “dog-watch” (which begins at four), and dark as a wolf’s mouth.”
