MEETING OF EXECUTIVE (By Telegraph—Press Association) PALMERSTON N., sth August. The North Island Motor Union executive discussed in committee the question of main highways finance. A letter was received from the Prime Minister slating (hat an opportunity would be given to the motor unions to submit evidence before the Select Committee. It, was reported that the union objected to the proposals of the Railway Department to increase the charges for using combined railway and road bridges, of which there were twentythree in the Dominion, from V 2662 to VIB,OOO. 'l’lie secretary explained that an agreement had been reached between the Counties’ Association and the union as to a reasonable charge, the Main Highways Board to be informed. It was decided that the oil companies he rcnuesled to discontinue roadside advertising; also that the, price of petrol he reduced to a figure more on a parity with the prices obtaining abroad.
