BEAVERBROOK SUPPORT FOR CONSERVATIVE PARTY EMPIRE TRADE (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph— Copyright) (Received 30th March, 12.35 p.m.) LONDON, 29th March. The Conservative Party issues correspondence following Mr Neville Chamberlain inviting Lord Beaverbrook to state the terms on which he would support tho Conservative policy. Lord Beaverbrook wrote emphasising that he had consistently urged the greatest attainable measure of Empire free trade or an economic unit, lie asked for an assurance that the programme proposed using the most efficient and practical methods to assist British manufacturing and wheat and agricultural production. He points out that he believes duties on foreign foodstuffs would be most effective, but recognises that quotas and prohibitions may be advantageous. He promises, if the party at the next election was prepared to ask for a mandate to use all these methods, to do everything to assist in fulfilment. Mr Chamberlain, replying, states: — “Mr Baldwin authorised me to say that you have correctly stated the policy of the Conservatives, who intend to employ all or any of the methods enumerated/’
