SIR MALCOLM CAMPBELL
A ROUSING RECEPTION (British Official Wirelesß) RUGBY, 20th February. Captain Sir Malcolm Campbell had a rousing reception from large crowds on his arrival in London to-day. In Westminster Hall lie was welcomed officially by the Minister of Transport, Mr Herbert Morrison, and Mr G. M. Gillett, Secretary of the Department of Overseas Trade. Mr Morrison said that Sir Malcolm Campbell’s record was an invaluable tribute to the efficiency of British engineering. Sir Malcolm replied that he was proud if his endeavour had helped to cement the friendship between the United States and Britain and to uphold British traditions.
Later, at a reception at the Royal Automobile Club, Sir Malcolm said that Ids success was due to the excellence of British workmanship in his car throughout, and to the assistance rendered by the British motor industry, and he paid a tribute to the spirit of sportsmanship he had met with in. America. To-morrow lie goes to Buckingham Palace to receive the Knighthood which the King has conferred upon him.
