ANOTHER CLASH
SENATE AND PRESIDENT VETERANS LOAN RELIEF BILL PASSED VETO EXPECTED (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph— Copyright) WASHINGTON, 19th February. The Senate, despite President Hoover's opposition, passed bv 72 votes to 12, the Veterans’ Loan Relief Bill of adjusted compensation certificates from to 59 per cent, of their face value. The Bill lias already been passed nj the House. The estimated cost is 700,000,000 dollars. Mr Hoover is expected to veto the measure within 48 hours, but it is virtually a foregone conclusion that the Bill will then pass over the veto. Senator Reed (Pennsylvania), admitting the Bill would pass, MiHoover vigorously. He asked, “Why under heaven in times of stress should we pour out money for the benefit of a particular group at the expense of every other group?”
