SERIOUS CHARGES
PROMINENT PROFESSIONAL MAN ARRESTED (By Telegraph— Special to "The Mail”) AUCKLAND, 19th February. As the result of complaints made to the Police by schoolgirls, detectives visited the home of a professional man at 8 o’clock this morning and arrested him on a chai’ge of wilful and obscene exposure. . , After a considerable time had been taken up by an- identification parade at the Detective Office and visits had been Vnade to accused’s motor car, which was parked near the police station, accused later appeared at the Police Court before Mr W. 11. Woodward, S.M. Mr Cleal, acting for Mr E. N. Northcroft, represented accused. Detective-Sergeant Kelly obtained a remand until 26th February. There are numerous other charges a similar nature pending,” lie said. “As this man holds a high position in and around the city, I have been instructed to ask that if bail is allowed it should bo substantial. “The girls .involved in the charges are between 9 and 14 years of age.” Mr Cleal submitted that the case was no different from any other involving a similar charge. He asked that until the charges were heard, accused's name should be suppressed. Mr Woodward: “I have no hesitation in directing that his name be not published. The order for suppression is therefore made.”
