NELSON AND TAHUNA
The weekly session of the Hope of Tahuna Temple was held in the Public Hall, presided over by Bro. D. Snowden, chief templar. The weekly temperance lesson was followed by routine and special business. Among the latter was a proposal from the Nelson Temple for a friendly game of football and the invitation was accepted. Bro. G. Jackman was awarded the prize given in connection with each quarter's guide competition. The result of the essay competition was also announced. The winner was Sister Joyce Williams, of the Bastion Memorial Temple, Christchurch, the competition having > been open to all temples in the Dominion. The item for next session was announced as "Character Sketches." For the best two prizes will be awarded. In a competition held at the close of the season Bro. Snowden came first and Bro. Jackman second.
On Saturday evening the weekly session of the Hope of Nelson Temple was held in the Rechabites Hall, presided over by Bro. J. Williams. After the weekly temperance lesson, given by the superintendent, Brother' Watson, assisted by the officers, five new members were duly initiated. This was followed by a programme of various items, including recitations by Bros. Leigh, Mabin, Patterson and Hansen. A very interesting item was provided by Sisters Joan Mitchell and Graham. Recitations were also given by Sister Kenmare, Sister Mrs Watson, Bros. Somerville'and Watson, and by Sister Mrs Hurley; a duet by Sisters Russell and Williams, songs by Bro. Watson and Mr Mabin, and a pianoforte solo by Sister Russell. The item for next session was announced 'as "Humorous Cuttings." Games were enjoyed by the members at the close of the session.
