VISIT OF THE lION. W. B TAVERNER
Yesterday the Hon. W. B. Taverner and Mrs Taverner visited the Cawtliroii Institute. They were accompanied by His Worship the Mayor (chairman of the Cawthron Trust) and the Chairman of the Nelson College Board of Governors, and showed deep interest in the work of each department. As Commissioner of State Forests, Mr Taverner remarked on the great effectiveness and beauty of the transparencies prepared from photographs of native and exotic trees growing in the neighbourhood of Nelson and exhibited in the Cawthron Museum. He also showed appreciation of the work which is being carried out in connection with forest entomology and forest mycology. The members of the Forestry Conference spent the greater part of Wednesday afternoon studying the work of the staff of the Cawthron Institute. O'-: behalf of the conference the chairman (Mr Phillips Turner), Director of Forestry, thanked the Director of the Institute for the opportunity which had been afforded them of studying the many exhibits of interest to foresters.
