MISHAP ON MOUNT EGMONT
WOMAN SLIPS ON ICE SLOPE (By Telegraph—Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, 24th March. Miss Eileen Byron, of Stratford, had a narrow escape from death on Sunday when she slipped down an ice slope on Mount Egmont. A big boulder stopped her progress after she had slid for about 500 ft. Had she slipped a few feet more she would have plunged down the precipice of Kapuni Gorge. Miss Byron was fortunate to escape with only a severe cut on one of her knees, bruises, and shock.
Miss Byron was returning with a. part/ of twelve, who had climbed to the summit from the Stratford slopes. After the accident she was carrif.d to the Dawson *Falls hostelry and received medical attention. A heavy mist was encountered ou the return from the sirnmit. The leader of the party shouted a warring to take care and .keep to the right, but it reached M'ss I--yron a second too lat<.\ .
