MAYOR OF CALCUTTA SENTENCED

The Mayor of Calcutta was sentenced to ten days' imprisonment on a charge of sedition arising out of a speech at Rangoon. SCENE IN LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY DELHI, 22nd March. A scene occurred in the Legislative Assembly when Sir Purshotamdas Thakurdas, a leading Bombay industrialist, called European non-official members of the Assembly mere hirelings and glorified clerks, speaking their master's voice for England, w J hile Indian magnates were in the legislatures of their own right.
