SIR HUBERT WILKINS

A RADIO TALK VALUE OF ANTARCTIC RESEARCH (United Press Association—By Eleotrio Telegraph—Copyright) NEW YORK, 22nd March. Sir Hubert Wilkinss, speaking over the radio, told of contemplated plans of a detailed survey study of Antarctica. Steffanson, who introduced his former assistant, told of an occasion when Wilkins "really saved the expedition." Wilkins reviewed Byrd's works and asserted his convictions of the importance of the establishment of weather posts in Antarctica. He said: "Could men work there, there would be no more danger there than on the streets of New York. But we want to see if we can get supplies to the men •regularly ; and if they can be maintained in conditions desirable enough to get men to stay there." Sir Hubert said that it was difficult to place the value in dollars and cents upon his and Byrd's work, but its importance would be more apparent in the future.
