MASS EXECUTION
OF EX-NAVAL OFFICERS
HUNDREDS SHOT
(Received 4th February, 12.15 p.m.) RIGA, 3rd February. The greatest massacre of officers since the eariy days of the Soviet revolution is reported. The Ogpu carried out mass execution of all remaining ex-naval officers, numbering several hundred, who had not entered the Soviet service although, they remained in Russia. The victims were shot at various prison camps where they had been confined since last year. Relatives appealed to co-religionists at Riga to hold requiems, which are not permitted in R.ussia. Accordingly the orthodox Russia church is organising services to-morrow.
TROUBLE IN FRANCE
RAID ON EMBASSY PLANNED (Received 3rd February, 10.15 a.m.) MOSCOW, 3rd February. M. Dovgalevsky has notified the French Government that Koutepoffs supporters are planning a raid on tbe Soviet Embassy with the object of causing a Franco-Russian rupture. The Soviet press bitterly protests against hostile French newspaper comments arising from the disappearance of Koutepoff, leader of Russian refugees in France.
