The Hon. 11. Atmore, Minister of Education, who arrived in Nelson on Sunday morning from Wellington, left yesterday morning for the South, travelling via the East Coast. The Minister will spend a few days visiting schools in the Havelock Blenheim, and Picton districts, lie will be accorded, a civic reception on the occasion of his first visit to Blenheim. Mr Atmore will visit also Kaikoura and Christchurch, at the latter of which places he will on Friday next lay the foundation stone of the now Avonside Girls' High School. The Minister is expected to return to Wellington on 12th February.

The death has occurred recently at Ngaio, Wellington, of Mrs L. Sutton (formerly Miss A. Grove), who was wellknown * for many years in Richmond, Nelson, and the Bay districts. Mrs Sutton served an apprenticeship to the drapery business with the old firm of T. R. "Hodder and Co. during the time it was in the hands of Messrs J. G. Harkness and Smythe. After their marriage Mr and Mrs Sutton were in business in Collingwood for many years, afterwards removing to Wocxlville and other North Island places; and more recently (during the war period) Mrs Sutton was in business of her own at Kilbirnie, finally removing to Ngaio. Mrs Sutton was" always a very popular and capable business woman and contributed her fair share to the'success of the different ventures in which she was engaged. She leaves a grown up family of four daughters (all married) and three sons. The eldest son was killed at Gallipoli. Mrs Norris and Mrs Fletcher of Nelson are sisters of the deceased. One sister, Mrs Riley, died a few years ago. There are several brothers surviving. Mr and Mrs Sutton had arranged for a trip to England during the present year, when death intervened. She passed away in her sleep. Mr Conway, of the Orchard Division, Horticultural Department, is at present in Nelson and will remain over the export season. Mr Conway recently returned from the Cook Island where he was inspecting fruit consignments for New Zealand.

Jackson, of the Lands and Deeds office, Blenheim, has been transferred to Nelson and has taken up I his new duties.
