SURPLUS WOOL
THE AUSTRALIAN CLIP
CONFERENCE AT MELBOURNE
MAY SEEK HELP FROM GOVERNMENT
(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright)
(Received 4th February, 11.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. A conference of wool growers and brokers is being held to-day to devise plans to finance wool, which it is contended must be withheld from market until consumers are ready for fresh stacks. The industry is courting disaster, its representatives assert, by continuing to force more wool on the market than the world's buyers require, with the result that the surplus must be sacrificed at speculators' own prices. Growers have hitherto been self-reliant and have eschewed Government aid in a marketing organisation, but it is believed that an appeal for financial assistance lo tide them over the present difficulty may be decided upon by the conference. They recognise that the Scullin Ministry has shown a desire to help the industry.
