COURT RETURNS
FIRST QUARTER THIS YEAR SUPREME AND MAGISTRATE'S COURTS The total amount claimed in Magistrate's Court civil cases at Nelson during the quarter ended 31st March was £2:539 7s 9(1. The total amount claimed in cases tried was £1409 8s 4d and the amount recovered was £1420 3s 4d. Arrests were made in connection with 30 offences and 97 summonses Were issued on criminal matters. There were 10 civil and 21 criminal sittings of the Court before a stipendiary magistrate and 9 criminal sittings before justices of the peace. Fourteen judgment summonses were issued. Criminal cases were: 120 against males and 7 against females. Fees paid were as follows: Civil, £149 (is; criminal, £2O 8s; fines, £IOO Lis; licensing fees, £lO 12s; total, £293 Is. SUPREME COURT In the Supreme Court during the quarter 70 chattel securities and 12 satisfactions were filed. Fees collected in the Supreme Court were as follows: Bankruptcy, £24 lis; administration, £9O; others, £9l 8s; total, £2ll 19s.
