SWEPT OFF ROCKS
TWO MEN DROWNED TRAGIC OCCURRENCE AT NEW PLYMOUTH (By Tslesraph—Praoa Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. Two men fishing on the breakwater at New Plymouth, were swept off by a huge wave yesterday morning and drowned. They were Albert Therklesun, engineer, employed at a foundry, aged 29, married with four children, and Ernest Edward Thomas, road roller driver, employed by the Borough Council, aged about 30, married with one child.
The bodies were not recovered last evening. Both were experienced fishermen, who knew the harbour well, and many residents who had a lull view of tiie tragedy were amazed at their daring in attempting to reach the end of the wall. Thomas, distinguishable by his size from Therklesun. was seen to bend down as the wave .struck the outer side of the wall, and then he was sent headlong into the foaming water of the harbour on the harbour side, where it is probable he would strike against ragged rubble flanking the wab. Therklesun. who was standing on a concrete block over tlie end of the wall, was simply smothered in the frothing waves,
