SHOPLIFTERS AT AUCKLAND
TWO WOMEN" CONVICTED (By Telegraph—Press Association) AUCKLAND, This Day. Mary Madeline Jessie Thompson (35) and Ada May Edgecombe (45), two married women, both employed as domestics, admitted extensive and systematic thefts from city shops. In the Police Court they jointly pleaded guilty to stealing guxls valued at £lO5. and Mrs lulgecoinb alone to the theft of goods to the value, of £33. When Mrs Edgecombe's bouse was searched stolen goods worth £l4O were found there. But for the fact that one of the accused was in ill-health the Magistrate, Mr Hunt, said he Would have sentenced both to two vears' imprisonment. Mrs Edgecombe was lined £4O and Mrs Thompson £2O. ten days being allowed to pay.
