MRS YOUNG'S CAMPAIGN

CANDIDATE MAKES A HAUL WELLINGTON, This Day. Mrs Young's candidature for Wellington Central, already the most conspicuous and most talked of event in the local political campaign, has added another novelty to the history of politics in New Zealand. Last night she spoke at the Town Hall and charged two shillings and one shilling admission. Notwithstanding that the weather was bitterly cold and wet the building was crowded, and so the lady at one stroke obtains sufficient money for her expenses and sets up a precedent no lady ever appears to have thought of before, at any rate in Wellington. HALF PROCEEDS TO CHARITY WELLINGTON, This Day. Mrs Young called on the Mayor this morning and advised him that she proposed to devote half the proceeds of her meeting at the Town Hall last night to Wellington charities to be nominated by him. The Mayor has agreed to nominate charities according to Mrs Young's wishes. The amount to be made available, it is understood, will be in the vicinity of £IOO. ON THE ROLLS (Received 13th November, 11.20 a.m.) CANBERRA, This Day. The number of voters on the Fbderal rolls for the election on Saturday totals 3,457,555. Women number 1,730,529, or 3503 more than men. Only three States, Victoria, South Australia, and Tasmania show an excess of women. PROVIDING MORE WORK EKETAHUNA, 12th November. The Prime Minister addressed a crowded meeting at Eketahuna on Saturday afternoon, and was accorded a great hearing. He dealt at length with the United Party's borrowing proposals, and outlined the various Gov* eminent activities, particularly in respect to land settlement and the encouragement of the primary industries, which he held would be a big factor in solving the unemployment problem by means of increasing the number of small producers. At the conclusion a vote of thanks and renewed confidence in him and the Government was carried unanimously.
