NELSON DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB The second of three shoots lor the trophy presented by the president, Mr F. H. Sharland, was fired at Wakapuaka range on Saturday, seventeen members competing. A gusty wind was experienced at. the first range fired, 300 yards, but this dropped towards the latter part of the afternoon and the last range was fired*, in calm weather but a dull light. Ranges were 300 and 500 yards, ten shots with two optional sighters, arid some good scores were registered during the afternoon. C. N. Johnson, who headed the list for the day, put on the creditable score of 46 at - 3CO yards and 48 at 500 yards—94 out of a possible 100. Next to him off the rifle were E. C. Russell and J. Dudgeon, with 91 each and H. V. Searle, J. Vitetta and S. Barnett each made 90, the lattdr with a handicap of two gaining second place in the afternoon's shoot. Johnson’s target at 300 yards, after cutting out. a 4 fixe 'his first sighting shot, read: 5355554554—46, and at 500 yards from his first shot he put on 5455554555—48, total 94. Harnett got the bull first shot, at 300 yards and went on with 534545434 ■ —42, and at 500 yards he cut out a 4 and 3 and put on 5555555445 —-48. Following are details of the scoring:—
