BUILDING VICTIMS
PRECAUTIONS AT FUNERAL ARREST OE COMMUNISTS MANY FOUND ARMED United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright Unilod Service PARIS, 25th October. Triple lines of polico city guards formed a cordon round Vincennes Town Ilall, where lay nineteen flag-covered, flowerhanked coffins of the victims of tho building collapse. They promptly sorted out from the crowd Communists, who had declared they would not permit any official to attend the funeral. Plain clothes men, as thousands of workers poured out of the underground station, discreetly tapped “reds” on the shoulder, whispering “this way.” Unsuspecting Communists docilely obeyed and were led to tlie old fortifications and detained. Resisters were bustled off to the police station. The police used a cafe destined for Communist headquarters as a. trap, allowing the “reds” to report themselves therein and taking them into custody as they made their exit. . The funeral was carried out with all decorum under the surveillance of wirelessly equipped police, an aeroplane enabling motor lorries of police and armed guards to forestall the Communists at strategical points, preventing rush tactics.
'Those detained numbered 1500, of whom 50 were armed.
