HARAKEKE BAZAAR

SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION This week a very successful bazaar (was held on the, hockey grounds, Ilaraijecke, llie funds being in aid of the coinIbined hockey and tennis club. Although Itlio weather in the morning was very, iunsatisfactory, the afternoon turned out beautiful for the occasion. The bazaar was opened by Mr U. A • Hudson, ALP., who was introduced m a short address by Air It. Tecce. Mr Hudson expressed* his great pleasure at being present at the function, ami emphasised tiie importance of such gatherings in cementing the interests of the people in the country, lie commended all those, who had worked so hard to make the bazaar a success and proposed a hearty vole of thanks to Air RTeece, who had placed his ground at the disposal of the club. I bis was carried by acclamation. The* bazaar was then declared duly opened, and business proceeded briskly. All the stalls were well patronised, and at the end of the day very few articles were left. The stalls included : The magic well, fancy work, etc., produce, ice creams, soft drinks, sweets and refreshments. Races and cricket were also on the piogramme', while the Alutueka Brass Band, under Air 11. Smith, rendered some very enjoyable, selections. The following were the guessing connpetitions and results: — Doll’s name (Joan): Air Quaife. Del s number (No. 21): Miss B. Teece Weight of cake (71bs. 6ozs.): Air 0. J. Davis. Bv Guessing the correct length of a piece of string in a bottle, Airs H. Almchen won a wicker chair donated by Air K. In the evening the. club bold a dance in the Jubilee Hall, which was h ied with dancers. The music was supplied by C. Revnish. A dainty supper was served,..ami soft drinks were on sale. Altogether the club had a very successful day.
