LORD HAILSHAM

ACTING-PRIME MINISTER (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, 9th August. Although he is still confined to his bed, the improvement in the condition of the Foreign Secretary, Sir Austen Chamberlain, is maintained. The Prime Minister has asked Lord Hailsham, Lord Chancellor, to act for him, while he is absent on holiday at Aix-les Bains. It is understood that, if it had not been for his Sir Austen Chamberlain would have been appointed Acting-Prime Minister, as he was during Mr Baldwin's recent absence in Canada.
