TOKIO/ 9th August. The Government published Japan's reply to Nanking's Note abrogating the Sino-Japanese commercial:treaty. It refuses to accept the Nanking viewpoint and urges China to withdraw the abrogation Note. It concludes strongly: "If 'Nanking persists in the enforcement of its proposed provisional regulations, Japan may be obliged'to take such measures as are deemed suitable to safeguard the rights and interests assured by the treaties."
