TRADE TREATY COMPLETED
COMMEMORATION BANQUET

-■:r\ . WELLINGTON, This Day. •The Japanese Consul-General for the Dominion and Australia, Mr I. M. Tokuyesterday Y entertained several ' members .of ?the Legislature and leading 'representatives of' the ' commercial: community ■• at a banquet; -After proposing the toast of the King and the Emperor •of Japan, Mr Tpkugawa said the,function had been arranged to commemorate . in a:' sniall way the taking effect of the trade treaty which 'had been, completed between the Governments of Japan and 'New Zealand..' He'added: "I am very glad this agreement has-been conclud- . e&' between the two countries, not only because it will.encourage trade between ! us; but because I hope it will be a contribution tP more general good.re- , latibnshrp between us." .Tse Prime Minister replying on beijialf of the Government, said: "We, too, desire': .to express our pleasure at the conclusion of the treaty of trade between *. New -Zealand, and may I :.- make it clear that .before entering into any negotiations we obtained from' the British Foreign Office their concurrence that we complete an agreement along the lines which' have been followed." -':■ "Mr'.: Coates concluded his address ... by reading' the following . cablegram from >' the Japanese Minister for Foreign Af- ; -fairs*:—"Trusting that commerce and intercourse, between us all will increase .-' to Vorir mutual benefit and be greatly stimulated', by the commercial* arrangement now arrived at.
