171 MEN TO BE DISMISSED
SLACKNESS OF TRADE

GREYMOUTH, This Day. The Blackball Coal Company directors gave intimation to the Miners' Union that 171 of the employees at the mine, namely, the single men, would be dispensed with after the expiry of a fortnight's notice, as then, the company intends to limit the operations at the mine to,one shift per day. It states that the reason is slackness of trade, whereby overhead charges prevent the mine payjngj' , .These developments will mean serious acoentuation of the unemployment difficulty in the district.
