Rain on the first and third days interfered with play in the County cricket matches and stopped some games. Sussex in the first innings made 496. (Duleepsinhji 125, Bowley 122, -Tate 102; Robins taking four for 34). Middlesex in the first innings made 497 for seven (Killick 140, Hendren 158). Middlesex won on the first innings. Kent in the first innings made 309 for seven declared (Hardinge 73, Ashdown 97). Somerset in the first innings made 100 (Marriott taking four for 33) and followed on and made 195 (Hunt 53, Creswell 58; Marriott taking five for 44). Kent won fby an innings find 14 runs.

Surrey in the first innings made 268 (Hobbs 93; Sam Staples taking five for 113) and in the second 183 for three (Hobbs not blit 85, Ducat 56). Nottinghamshire in the first innings made 324 (Whysall 129). Notts won on the first innings. Yorkshire in the first innings -made 352 (Sutcliffe 126, Holmes 54, MacDonald taking six for 144. Lancashire in the first innings made 244 for three (Watson 110, Makepeace not out 82). There was no play on the third clay. The match was drawn.

Gloucestershire in the first innings made 368 (Hammond 67, Dipper 67, Seabrook 107) and in the second 207 for six declared (Seabrook not out 69). Hampshire in the first innings made 150, Sinfield taking four for 29, and in the second 264 for four (Newman 92, Mead not out 117). -. Gloucester won on the first innings. Essex in the first innings made 440 (O’Connor 94, Nichols 58, Russell 153; Root talcing six for 104) and in the second 250 for five, declared (Crawley 55, .Cutmore 69, O’Connor 60). Worcestershire in the first innings made 35'4 (Quaife 76, Gibbons 56; Palmer taking five for 80), and in the second 97 for none (Wright not out 57). Essex won on the first innings. West Indies in the first innings made 327 (Challenger 55, Nunes not out 127), and in the second 164; Ryan taking seven for 62. Glamorgan in the first innings made 256 (Riches 65; Small taking five for 52) and in the second 100 for three. Rain caused a stoppage and the match was drawn.

For Warwickshire against Derbyshire Bats made 90. W. Quaife not out 115, Parsons 114, Calthorpe not out 71. Durnell took five'for 63. For Derbyshire Storcr made 61,. Bowden 92, Lee not out 52. Warwickshire won. For Northamptonshire against Leicestershire Brown made 59. Wright took five for 84. For Leicestershire Astill made 80. Smith took four for 14 and five for 82. Leicestershire won.
