CASEY BEATS McDONALD ON POINTS , (By Telegraph.—Press Association) PALMERSTON N., This Day. A good house favoured the Manawatu Boxing Association when Harry Casey, the middleweight professional champion of New Zealand defeated Lachie McDonald, the holder of the Australian title on points after a good bout of 15 three minute rounds. Although it was thought that the bout would involve at least the New Zealand,championship, such was not the case, neither £itle being at stake. - The deciding factor of the bout was Casey’s straight left which he used to excellent advantage in the latter rounds of the bout. McDonald had the better of the first four rounds, but thereafter had to give way to the New Zealander who badly: marked McDonald’s face. The Northern Boxing Association decided that Auckland be represented in all the weights at the New Zealand amateur boxing championships in Auckland on 23rd, 24th and 25th August, Flyweight—F. E. Pearcy, the Auckland champion in 1927-28; bantamweight —E. Davies, South Auckland champion and Auckland champion; featherweight— J. Leslie, Auckland, champion; lighti weight—A. Jones, Auckland champion ; welterweight.—J. G. Forsyth, Auckland champion; middleweight—W. Pitcher, Auckland champion ; light-heavyweight— T. Mullins, Auckland champion; heavyweight—P. MacCarlhy, Auckland champion 1927-28, and* light-heavyweight-champion 1928. It is possible that Leslie may not be able to make the featherweight limit, and in that event the Association will decide on a substitute.
