COMPULSORY DEHORNING

REQUEST FOR LEGISLATION

(By Telettrauh.—Press Assneim

WELLINGTON, This Day. A deputation from Canterbury to day asked the Minister for Agriculture for legislation making compulsory the dehorning of cattle'. It was stated that the proposal had the support of the wholesale butchers, wool brokers, freezing companies, and other bodies; also that hides would be. worth from 3s to 4s more on the average. The Minister was asked to treat tiie matter as one of urgency. The Hon. 0. .T. Hawken was sympathetic and said a tanner should dehorn his own cattle. Tl was to his benefit. He would look into the question with a view to legislation this session if possible. He mentioned that probably the best way would be to' prohibit anv two-year-old cattle from being trucked after a certain date.
