PROCEDURE IN FJLLTNG VACANCIES
(To tlie Editor) Sir.—A short paragraph in your jour nal as issued on Thursday, 2nd August, and forming part of the report of the previous day's Board meeting requires a little amplification, otherwise the meaning remains obscure. The Crown Law Department's opinion/lays it down that appointments are made by the Governor-General (who is the Visitor) on the recommendation of the Hon. Minister for Education. All enquiries are made and representations received by the Hon. M m_ ister for Education, the Governor-Gene-ral's part being a purely formal one. ' The present Minister of Education being fully conscious'of his rights, duties arid powers on that question has already notified me of his intention to appoint another woman representative when the vacancy occurs through Mrs Tillyard's resignation.—l am, etc., -„„ ■ _ 8 HARRY ATMORE.
