SEVEN-A-SIDE

HOLIDAY RUGBY '

"SIPI/ID" TOWWAMENTS

The annua! "Spud" Monday Rugby seven-a-side tournaments were'held" at l Trafalgar Park yesterday afternoon. There was little interest taken in the programme, there being but a mere handful of spectators present. The display of football was disappointing, the two' winning teams, Waimea in the senior and Wakatu in the' junior, being the only two teams, which had proper seven-a-side combination. Except for the Referees v. Rival match in the senior tournament the games in the competition resulted in decided wins, with few fight-to-the-iinish contests. The junior, matches provided some even struggles. Wakatu and Old Bovs had to play 15 minutes overtime before Wakatu "managed to get the winning points. SENIOR Waimea 8, Nelson 3 Wells opened Waimpa's scoring account with a try, after a gallop of over threequartcrs the length ot the field. Rogers converted. H. Snow crossed for Nelson. P. Keams streaked home for Waimea's final try. Pirates 18, Old Boys 0 Old Boys fielded a team which was a long way off senior seven-a-side strength, and went down to Pirates- by 18 points to nil. For Pirates, Hall, Bowers, Max (2), Fowler and Stringer scored tries. Referees 14 ; Rivals 11 The Referees v. Rival match, although not productive of spectacular football created great interest and was very en--tertaining. Croiicher, Eastgate, Hunter and Pike scored tries for the JReferees, Pike, who was playing in ■ his i stockings, converting one. For Rivals' Harris, Boyce and. Hawthorn scored a try each. Boyce converted one.

.Waimea 16, White Star 5 •White Star held their own until the change over, when Waimea showed their superiority in no uncertain manner. S. Newman went over for the White Stars only try, which was converted by the same player. Boyce (2),' Keams, and Watson crossed the line for Waimea. Wells and Sutton converting one each.

Pirates 11, Referees 3 Max scored a try, which Bowers converted, then Bowers went across.for a try. The players' team's form told on the referees' annuaF attempt to "come, but not before the controllers of the game had put 3 points to their credit through a try hy Croucher. Max streaked the length of the field for Pirates' final try. >
