DAMAGE BY FIRE
EKETAHUNA HIGH SCHOOL DESTROYED (By Teleeraph.—Press Association) EKETAHUNA, This Day. The District High School, consisting of five class-rooms and a science room, with the contents, including all the school records, and valuable curios and books the property of the headmastej, was totally destroyed by fire at 8.50 last evening. When discovered the fire was right through the interior of the building, and the fire brigade could do nothing but save the adjoining shelter shed. The origin of the fire is a complete mystery, but it is believed to have started in the science room. The headmaster left at 5.30. when everything appeared quite safe. The caretaker was there later. The secondary school building, some distance away", is intact. The insurances are unobtainable. OUTBREAK AT TAURANGA TAURANGA, This Day. A fire at 1 o'clock this morning completely gutted the business premises owned and occupied by G. Maltby, solicitor, and E. T. Baker, estate and commission agent. It was discovered by the nightwatchman, and bad a good hold when the brigade arrived. The firemen had a hard fight with the heavy wind blowing. Other tenants were. Chilcott, tailor, Stevens and Colliding, surveyors, and the Plunket rooms, who all suffered considerable loss.
