FOR CANNING MEAT BIG SAVING TO DOMINION (Onited Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. In the course of a statement the Prime Minister announced that investigation by the Scientific Research Board of a process involving the use of sodium nitrate fins produced an entirely new method of canning meat, and the Health Department, lias gazetted regulations permitting the use of the new method. This process is both speedier and more efficient than the old In ine and saltpetre method. It, enables beef extract, which hitherto was useless on account of its high salinity, to be utilised in the preparation of hi'ghiy nutritious feed for pigs and poultry, and the meat itself when canned possesses an even standard of quality and colour. The adoption of this process alone will mean the effecting of a savj r tr (o the meat industrv of the Dominion amounting to some £30,000 to £40,000 per annum.
