Passengers bT the Xamabine' from Wollihgt'oii last night Mdjioft’ that' a collision between' the Tamahine and the Maunganui was narrowly averted in Cook Strait. Both vessels left ‘Wellington at about the same time, the Tamahine for Pit-ton and the Maungaliui for Sydney. Off Karori Rock, the Maunganui overhauled the Tamahine, and it is stated crossed her hows at a distance of 00 feet without warning. The Tamahine was sent full speed astern and the wheel thrown over and narrowly missed a collision. Both Vessels had a full complement of passengers.- ’
