, Captain Horace Norgrove, who died at Papakura fast week, was born in Wellington in 1846. He spent the early part of his life in Marlborough, his narents moving to Blenheim, known as xTeavertown, when it was a scatfered group of wooden huts. He was one of the first volunteers in Blenheim. In the 'seventies Captain Norgrove built a schooner, the Amateur, at Picton, and, in partnership with his brothers, embarked en a private trading venture, carrying cargoes between the coastal ports with the Amateur and another sqhooner, the Unity. He was also well known as the Government mail contractor for Qu?en Charlotte and Pelorus Sounds. He retired in 1904 and went to Auckland, living in various parts of the province. He married Miss Caroline Eliza Whiting at Wellington in 1873, and is survived by -four daughters, one sen, and two grandchildren. Mr D. A. Carr, son of Archdeacon and Mrs Carr, passed for his Diploma of Education at the 4 recent University examinations.
