THOSE OPEN DITCHES

(To the .Editor)

Sir,—Mr Frank Gibbons is deserving of thanks for his outspoken letter. These Valley ditches have existed for many years, which would not have been the case had the residents had more influence and more "political pull." They are humble and also inaudible, and it says much for their general sobriety that some of them have not been drowned or broken their necks in these deadly open drains. Apart from the ditches there are other highly dangerous aspects of drainage in this same Toi Toi Valley requiring immediate attention—not near the roadwav, but further back—festering at present in a sub-tropical atmospheiv. Providence is kind, otherwise we should have been visited by a serious epidemic ere this. It's for the Council to "get busy" and without delay.—l "'"' ptC ' ' RESIDENT. Nelson, 16th January.
