GARDEN FETE

Fearon’s hush was the scene of much activity on Saturday afternoon, when the Methodist Bible classes held a garden-fete-for the purpose of raising furidri :'io build a hall, for Bible class meetings, gymnastics, etc. Beautiful wfeather, a first-rate programme and an excellent attendance all contributed towards a successful day? Mr'RriP. Hudson, M.P., was present and opened the proceedings. Miris Monica Parker presented Mrs Hudson with a beautiful bouquet of flowers at'the conclusion of Mr Hudson’s remarks. Very keen interest avas displayed in the various competitions;. and business at the- stalls was so brisk, that the net results totalled approximately £35. Among the many attractions \Vere. the museum and “the man with one-hundred pockets.” Stalls, and stallholders were as follows: Afternoon tea and sweetß, Motucka Ladies’ Guild; cake stall, Lower Montere Ladies” Guild; raspberries -and cream and .ice -cream, 3 .W.8.C.; soft drinks, Y.M.B.C. 7 _ Winners of competitions were: Dark ■spolige cake, Miss .Hightf 1,, Miss B. Hunt 2. Light spinke cage, Mrs Moss-1, Miss Hight:2. Sponge, roll, Mrs Allco. t 2 (two entries). Sultana cake, Mrs Quayle 2 (two entries)'. Stepping comY petition : (men), Mr Russell. Stepping competition (ladies’), Mrs Allcott. ■ Shooting gallery, under the supervision of Mr Wise. Mrs Wise 1. . . In'The baby show, prizes for babies under six months, went to Mrs F. Hudson 1, Mrs Benny 2; and for babies over six' months prizes were won by Mrs N.' Hill 1, and Mrs Hazelwood 2. .-The fancy dress parade resulted in the following awards (adults):. -Mr Cozens (clown), . Miss Betty Moss (peasant girl)'; (children) Monica. Jessie, Alan and jack Parker (bridal party). Miss Bovee came first, and Mr Quavle second in the decorated bicycles competition and in hat trimming, Mr Russell 1/ and Mr B. Penney 2. TBe judges were’ Mrs S. P. Clay (children’s fancy dross and decorated cycles)’ Me'ridames • Guy and StTachan(adults faricy dress); Mr H. Hart (cakes). ' ‘ Selections played by the Motueka Brass Band under the baton of Mr H. H; Smith; were thoroughly appreciated by the large gathering assembled at the Domain.
