BUSH FIRES
ENORMOUS DAMAGE IN VICTORIA (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Australian & N.Z. Cable Association) MELBOURNE, 13th January. Bush fires raged throughout the State> the whole «tay, __causing enormous damage, hut with the exception of Gippsland, where fires are still burning, a cool change assisted the fire fighters to control the outbreaks. So far one fatality is reported. A volunteer firo fighter named 'Barton collapsed and died in the. Violet town district. ■ Outbreaks in Mallee were followed by a hurricane which uprooted trees and demolished bouses, adding to the already heavy damage. A'boy named Heley was riding with his father in a motor truck when the hurricane blew the truck off the road, fatally impaling the boy,' who was aged 14 years, on a near-by fence.
