Sir Benjamin Fuller, the well-known proprietor of Australian and New Zealand theatrical interests, is at present in I"Nelson on a motor tour of New Zealand. I A tribute to the late Mr E. H. Bisley was paid bv the Mayor (Mr W.J. Moffatt) at the Council meeting last evening in the" course of moving a resolution of sympathy with the family of the deceased. The passing of Mr Bisley, said the Mavor, was a loss to the district. He was a most progressive and active man, and at the time of his death was actively engaged in superintending the construction of the esplanade at the Sands. The Mayor went on to say that he thoroughly endorsed everything contained in the obituary notice in "The Mail." Although Mr Bisley was not a member of any local body, he had filled his part in life as an active citizen,and the Mayor felt sure that all would join with him in deploring Mr Bisley's death. The motion was earned in silence, councillors standing meanwhile. A Sydney Press cable states that Sir George Elliott, chairman of directors of the Bank of New Zealand, and Lady Elliott, are passengers by the Niagara. Masonic Hotel visitors include. News has been received of the death of Mi 11. E. Johnston, son of the late Mr David Johnston, who was Collector of Customs at Nelson for many years. The deceased spent his boyhood in Nelson and was educated at the Bishop's School. He leaves one sister, Mrs Robt. Snodgrass, and two brothers, W. Johnston of Nelson and J. Johnston of Richmend.
