HAWKE CUP MATCHES ALLOCATION DIFFICULTIES ' (By Telocraph—Special to "Tbe Mail") CIIRISTCHURCH, Tins Day. At a meeting of the management committee, of the New Zealand Cricket Council, correspondence was received from various associations regarding Hawke Cup matches. 'The Hawkes Bay Association stated that it had sent teams to play in the, competition for the last four "years at great expense, and considered its claim for a challenge was entitled to consideration before associations which had not shown, the same interest in the competition, and requested it to he, given the first convenient date after the Poverty Bay match. It was reported that the chairman had replied that the allocation of matches was a. difficult matter and that while some premium should he. placed on past keenness of associations in the competition, it was the opinion of the commit'tee that priority of right of challenge could not be confined to those who had shown such enterprise, in the past. It was felt that it was the duty of the, committee to help Poverty Bay. "We are meeting with exactly tlie same complaint as yours from the Waik'ato Association, and in view of the numerous challenges already in, there is little doubt that more special appeals for Hawke Cup matches will bo received by the council before the season is over. 1 would ask you to bear with us in the difficulties which these Hawke Cup matches create."
