DEAD ESTIMATED'AT THOUSANDS

PARIS, Ist December.
M. Violette, a former official in Algeria, states' that ,the fertile plains of Oran are covered with 8 to 12 inches of mud,_ rendering'them useless for an indefinite period. He estimates that 250 Europeans and 2{oo natives are dead. The /desolation is hardly imaginable. Perregaux is flooded and there is no sign of life. Bodies are floating in the muddy water. It is still raining.
