Cancer mortality is increasing in meet civilised countries, said Professor Blair, lecturing. “The peril is now. so great,” he said, “that unless we soon conquer the disease nations will be farced to stop warring and unite to stamp out a horror threatening the existence of mankind.” Ho advocated that the first line of defence should he prevention, for which the public should be educated and organised into a vast co-operative scheme sustained until it is as common as washing the hands. , 3le added that cancer of the lips, mouth, tonsils, and pharynx were commonest in men, largely due to alcoholism and smoking wooden pipes. Cigarette holders continually directed a stream of hot gases to the'same part of the tongue, roof of the mouth, and throat. Cigarettes without a holder were safest from this viewpoint vvlien cigars 'are impossible. He added .that all over. 40 should be examined twice a year at Government clinics. .
