“THE ARCADIANS”
ANOTHER SPLENDID PER* / FORMANCE
j TO A CAPACITY HOUSE To a capacity house at the Theatre Royal last evening the Nelson Operatic and Dramatic Society gave another splendid performance of “The Arcadians.” The audience was a most appreciative one—and deservedly so. The production did not suffer in any way by the break of four nights since the Society’,s second performance—in fact it can be said that those taking part entered into the spirit of “The Arcadians” with renewed vigour, and the whole show was a credit alike to both the producer and those under him. There was an utter absence of restraint or selfconsciousness which is noticeable in ?ome amateurs, and this fact alone made the performance go with a swing that was highly pleasing to the audience. As on the previous nights the work of the principals, especially Mrs W. Moynihan, Miss B. Aydon and Messrs A. K. Griffiths and A. R-. Kingsford, was firstclass, the two last named having the audience in fits of laughter, arid in his song “My. Motter” Mr Kingsford had to reappear. Miss V. Bell and Miss M. Trussing made dainty little “Arcadians,” and their songs were given in a most pleasing manner. For his first appearance. ,in amateur theatricals Mr Eric Stevens showed a decided aptitude for the “footlights”, and backed up with a nicely modulated voice (heard very effectively in “The Only Girl Alive”) proved him possessed of no little ability. Mr Charles Hamilton has been seen in many local productions, and ho made a great success of his part as Sir George Paddock. Mr Milker, Mr Hodge, Miss K. Simpscu, Mr D. Moore, and Mr A. G. Betts, jnr., carried out their minor parts well. The chorus work was well done, especially the finale in Act 1 and the climax which rung down the curtain in Act 11. To the, orchestra, under the baton of Mr Lemmer, a word of praise is due. The season will close to-night, when another full , house is assured.
