AUSTRALIAN PURCHASE OF RADIUM • '

In the House of Representatives the Assistant Minister for Health, Sir Neville Howse, announced that the Commonwealth had purchased ten grammes of radium, valued at £IOO,OOO. He ex-, plained that there was among Federal Ministers a desire that there should be no delay in deciding whether the extraordinary claims made, particularly in the United States, for radium treatment, were justified. It was recognised that there had been an alarming spread of cancer in Australia—in fact, all over the world. The Ministry W’as anxious to take every possible step to alleviate or cure the condition of those suffering from this disease. One of the leading exponents of radium treatment in Britain, Dr. Burrows, would arrive in Australia, next month to‘place radium treatment on the best possible basis in the Com--monwealth.
